MEET OUR STAFF

Nicole Gueniat, DVM  

Dr. Gueniat was fascinated by all creatures on earth as a little girl. Her room was furnished wall to wall with pictures from the animal world.  She walked other people’s dogs, she spent every free minute after school at the horse barn, and she raised tadpoles to frogs.  Her first pets were three hamsters. At age 12 Dr. Gueniat assisted a pigmy goat when giving birth to three baby pigmies.

Her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian became true when she graduated from Veterinary School in Bern, Switzerland, in 1983. She trained in the specialty of reproductive physiology and internal medicine at Iowa State University and Oklahoma State University. 

Dr. Gueniat & husband, Martin

In the spare free time, Dr. Gueniat enjoys singing in the Swiss Singing Society Harmonie together with her husband, and outdoor activities like hiking and skiing.  Dr. Gueniat and her husband, Martin, recently performed at the Swiss Park in Whittier, California with the Swiss Singing Society Harmonie.  Dr. Gueniat and her husband have been members of the Swiss Singing Society for years, which performs traditional Swiss folk songs in four languages throughout both America and Switzerland.

This year's concert was entitled "Prelude to our Swiss Trip", and was a great success in raising money to take the choir to Switzerland this September, where they will be performing several concerts all across the cantons of Switzerland. The Swiss Harmonie keeps up the traditions of Switzerland in song and costume, but also performs music from their adopted homeland, America.

Heidi, Hospital Manager

Like many women I grew up with a deep love of animals and had been steering towards a career in the veterinary field, then reality hit and I developed allergies to everything.  I turned away from my career path to pursue a more tolerable form of employment.  After distancing myself from an animal friendly environment for most of my adult life I decided that enough was enough and I was not going to deny myself any longer, also, I discovered the fabulous world of nasal sprays!  I can now join my love of animals with my people oriented business background to create a happy merger of the two.  I have known Dr. Gueniat and her friendly staff for many years since they are the practice of choice for my dog.  I am delighted to be part of a team who take the care for our beloved pets and their people so much to heart.

Karen, Client Relations  

Karen is a client relations associate at Monrovia Animal Medical Center.  She has been working for Dr. Gueniat since May of 2006 and enjoys working with all her coworkers.  Before working with animals, Karen spent many years working for mortgage lenders and with a credit insurance company.  She has previously worked at two other animal hospitals.  Karen feels fortunate to have joined the animal care field and says she has found her true calling.  Karen is the proud adoptive mother of two rescued Chihuahua mix dogs, "Franky Santana" and "Willow Blue", and is  Auntie to "Maulie", "Kayte", "Scabby Cat" and many other K-9’s and felines.

Jorge, Veterinary Technician

Jorge is a veterinarian who graduated from U.N.A.M. Veterinary University in Mexico City. He has been working as a veterinary technician for several years while preparing to obtain his license to practice veterinary medicine in the United States.  Jorge has worked with dairy cattle and horses, and has extensive experience in companion animal medicine.  He has worked side-by-side with specialists in a wide variety of veterinary specialties, including orthopedics, internal medicine, oncology and dentistry.  Jorge is highly skilled in administering anesthesia, surgical assisting, radiology, all aspects of routine veterinary care, and has a special interest in veterinary dentistry.  In his free time, Jorge enjoys hiking, bicycling, and admiring the beauty of nature.  He has two pets, a German Shepherd/Labrador Retreiver mix named Elvis and a Siamese cat named Gabby.
